Pitch Replacement
The vision
In preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Twickenham Stadium underwent a multi-million pound programme of stadium improvement works. As part of the programme of works the Pitch Replacement was a £2m project to renew the playing surface involving the removal and reconstruction of the substructure to a depth of circa 450mm, incorporating new drainage, irrigation and under-soil heating.
The new pitch surface is a hybrid comprising natural grass and synthetic mix utilising the Desso system creating a surface benefiting from sustained durability and reduced maintenance between events.
Works commenced in May 2012 and was completed in preparation for the double-header in September 2012.
Our Role
3PM were appointed as Programme Managers and Project Managers for the RFU.
This was the first of the Stadium Upgrade projects and we provided Client side project management to oversee and integrate the project in to the approved governance arrangements and to provide key interface between the RFU stakeholders, designers and contractor.
Our role included change control management and coordination, programme and risk management to ensure the pitch was completed on time. After detailed stakeholder mapping at the early stages, we managed all the communications to the variety of parties involved.
