Westminster Kingsway College
Victoria Centre Refurbishment
The vision
Westminster Kingsway College (WKC) provides further and higher education opportunities in the catering and associated sectors. The College completed phase 1 of a large redevelopment exercise in 2010 upgrading plant and infrastructure and this second phase has enabled WKC to complete the upgrade plans for this campus.
The works comprised the creation of common space in a new lightweight steel framed Atrium infilling a central light-well and upgrading all existing classrooms and offices to improve the overall quality of the environment for staff and students. All this carried out in phases over 15 months with the building fully occupied throughout.
Located in the Westminster City Council domain, the building is grade 2 listed requiring Listed Building Consent and had sensitive local issues that needed to be managed relating to the adjacent primary school at the rear and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) head office adjoining to the side. The College was keen to respect both neighbours during the works and was mindful of and sympathetic to the need to mitigate the impact of vibration, noise, dust and disruption caused by access and traffic
